Colmar Christmas markets
Coming to Colmar during the end-of-year holiday period is a great opportunity to discover the city and talk about history with Sophie.
Sophie offers you a complete program to go back in time and discover Colmar at Christmas.
Here are the program details:
2 p.m.: Departure from Place Rapp to reach the city center of Colmar, passing through Rue des Serruriers to discover the pretty decorations of the city. A detour via this street allows you to enter the atmosphere of the typical pedestrian streets of Alsace with the famous half-timbered houses!
Crossing the Place de la Cathédrale de Colmar: discovery of the city's main Christmas market, a group of small chalets where you can find various artisanal products. A good smell emerges in the aisles of this small market, a small mixture of fresh fir, spices and orange. On this square, restaurants concoct Alsatian specialties and offer oyster platters. From appetizer to dessert, there is something to enjoy.
Pass by the rue des Clefs to reach the market of the Place Jeanne d'Arc. In the rue des Clefs, there are some emblematic and original shops of the region.
Place Jeanne d'Arc: we (re)discover Alsatian gastronomy, we can taste Alsatian specialties (gingerbread, charcuterie, cheeses). Local craftsmen present their productions; exhibition of their know-how (paintings of the Alsatian vineyard or the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle). It is a setting worthy of an authentic Alsatian village. The facades of the square tell the story of Alsace.
Go through the Grand Rue to reach the Place de l'Ancienne Douane. This square is the essential meeting point in the heart of the old town. The houses are spread around the picturesque canal. Inside the building of the Old Customs House, craftsmen show the extent of their know-how. Cabinetmakers, hatters, jewellers, ceramists, master glassmakers willingly share their passion.
An unmissable detour from Colmar! A wintry setting along the quays.
A location known to chocolate buffs by the presence of one of the great chocolate artisans of Alsace. In the middle of these alleys, you feel in the heart of the Alsatian city. With a little snow, the magic of the decorations operates.
Tasting of mulled wine *or hot apple juice for amateurs
4.30 p.m.: Passage to Little Venice. An unmissable detour in Alsace! The quays are decorated and it is possible to take a short boat trip. Children's choirs are common in Colmar. The children sing on boats that sail on the canal of the picturesque Little Venice. Along the Lauch, which crosses Colmar, the water comes alive with concerts given on flat-bottomed boats. These boats were traditionally used by market gardeners. These concerts are offered by the choirs of the city.
